Boxing legend George Foreman, famously known as “Big George,” has died at the age of 76, his family has announced.
A dominant figure in the sport, Foreman began his career in the 1960s and quickly rose to prominence, winning Olympic gold before capturing multiple world heavyweight titles.
His first reign as champion ended in 1974 with a historic loss to Muhammad Ali in the iconic “Rumble in the Jungle.” However, Foreman built an incredible legacy, securing 76 professional victories, including 68 knockouts, nearly double Ali’s total, while suffering only five defeats.
He first claimed the world heavyweight title in 1973 and made history again in 1994 by regaining it at 45, becoming the oldest heavyweight champion in history. Foreman retired from boxing in 1997, cementing his place as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
