The SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) shared a cryptic post on social media ahead of the IPL 2026 player retention deadline (Saturday, November 15). Notably, the Hyderabad-based franchise posted a picture of wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan amid rumours of his release ahead of the upcoming mini-auction.
SunRisers Hyderabad endured a disappointing campaign in IPL 2025. They failed to live up to the expectations set after their impressive run to the final in 2024. The Pat Cummins-led team struggled for consistency throughout the season and ultimately finished sixth in the ten-team points table last year.
SunRisers Hyderabad have officially confirmed Ishan Kishan’s retention for the IPL 2026 season with a 19-second video on X (formerly known as Twitter). The franchise captioned the post, “Orange looks 24K on him.”

Kishan was seen wearing the orange kit during a training session. The announcement comes after weeks of speculation about his future with SRH, especially amid reported interest from other franchises. Fans expressed relief and excitement following the confirmation.

SunRisers Hyderabad are expected to part ways with several high-priced players as they look to rebuild a more balanced squad ahead of IPL 2026. The franchise is likely to make key changes across departments.
The bowling unit came under scrutiny after failing to deliver last season. Mohammed Shami, who was signed for a significant sum, struggled to make an impact, prompting speculation that SRH might release or trade the veteran pacer before the next season.
After seven years with the Mumbai Indians (MI), Ishan Kishan was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, where he became one of the most sought-after players. SunRisers Hyderabad secured his services for ₹11.25 crore to strengthen their top order.
Kishan made a sensational start, smashing an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls in SRH’s opening game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. However, his form dipped as he couldn’t maintain the same level of impact.
The left-hander scored 354 runs in 13 innings at an average of 35.40 and a strike rate of 152.58. The team failed to reach the playoffs and finished sixth in the league standings.
According to a report by The Times of India, SunRisers Hyderabad received trade inquiries from three franchises (Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals) for Kishan.
Mumbai Indians, who had released Kishan before the 2025 mega auction, reportedly showed interest in bringing him back. However, while initial discussions took place, no agreement was reached.
KKR and RR also explored potential trade or all-cash deals for the left-hander. Kishan’s ability to open the innings, keep wickets, and provide balance by freeing up an overseas slot makes him a valuable long-term option. However, any move will depend on successful negotiations with SRH.
