Telangana govt announces 42 percent reservation for OBC in education and jobs
Telangana obc reservation: The Telangana government has made a big announcement for the OBC community. State Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced 42% reservation in education, jobs and political representation for the OBC community. Till now it was 23%, which will now be almost doubled.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy released the results of the caste census stated that Telangana has a population of 56.36% of the backward classes (OBC). He said that this decision has been taken on the basis of scientific and legal process. Revanth Reddy wrote on social media X, “The OBC population in Telangana is 56.36%. Now we will ensure 42% reservation for this group in education, jobs and political representation.”
Bill introduced to implement 42% quota
The Telangana government has introduced two bills to implement 42% reservation. This reservation will be given in education, government jobs and local body elections. OBC quota will also be increased from 23% to 42% in rural and urban local bodies.
Congress’s election promise and national level impact
Prior to the 2023 assembly elections, the Congress had released the ‘BC Declaration’, in which it was promised. At the national level, Rahul Gandhi promised to conduct caste -based census on the formation of the Congress government at the Center.
BJP’s opposition
The BJP criticized the Congress and said that it is trying to create partitions in the society on the basis of caste. The BJP believes that more than reservation is to give priority to employment and development.
Please tell that this was part of the Congress’s election promise, which is now being fulfilled. Now, on the basis of OBC population being 56.36% in Telangana, 42% reservation was decided. Reservation will be implemented in education, government jobs and local bodies. At the same time, the BJP criticized this step and called it a politics of dividing the society.
