There was a time in Rampur when the summer sun was very fast and the heat stroke used to disturb the people. In such weather, everyone had trouble from common people to princely states. But the Nawabs of Rampur had taken a special solution to avoid the heat. He had built a cold and comfortable place within the city, which we know today as Kothi Benazir.
Kothi Benazir is a summer palace, built during the reign of Nawab Hamid Ali Khan. The specialty of this palace was that the effect of heat was not there at all. Intach (Indian National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage) Kashif Khan, co-convenor of Ruhelkhand Chapter, says that this kothi was prepared in a special way so that it remains cold even in summer.
Walls were very special
The walls of this kothi were very thick and wide, due to which the heat outside did not reach inside. It was made high and strong linters, and in the minarets, materials like Sukhi-lund were used, which naturally maintained coolness. When someone entered this palace, he immediately realized the coolness.
Nawabs lived with Begum
This palace was designed in the Indo-European style, in which a beautiful mixture of Indian and European architecture is seen. It was not just a living place, but a place to rest in summer for the Nawabs and their Begumat. Begamat used to come here during summer and the Nawab also lived here for a few days.
historic monuments
Kothi Benazir is not just a historical building, but it is a symbol of Nawabi lifestyle and his understanding. He learned to mold his living according to the weather. Even today, this kothi tells the stories of that era with its cold walls, beautiful textures and royal style. This Kothi of Rampur is still considered to be the pride of the city as a historical heritage. It tells how in olden times people used to take great measures to avoid the heat of any machine or AC.
