Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise pipped Punjab Kings in the final of the IPL 2025 season to lift the coveted silverware for the first time in the league’s 18-year history. However, RCB’s moment of euphoria soon turned grim, as their celebrations were marred by a tragic stampede outside Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium the following day.
As many as 11 RCB fans lost their lives in the stampede, casting a dark shadow over the franchise’s historic triumph and turning scenes of joy into moments of mourning.
Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has given his take on RCB’s IPL 2025 victory and the ensuing stampede tragedy that took place in Bengaluru. Resulting in the death of 11 RCB fans and injuring several others, Uthappa emphasized with the players, claiming that the franchise can never truly celebrate their biggest day owing to the loss of lives.
While speaking on his YouTube channel and as quoted by Hindustan Times, Robin Uthappa said:
“The victory will always be marred by the loss of the lives of the people involved. It is so unfortunate that they can’t even celebrate the win that they have achieved after so many years, after so much hard work. It is going to be marred by this, and so you got to feel sad for the fans and, of course, for the players.”
Following the stampede, an FIR was filed for alleged criminal negligence against the RCB management and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on June 5. The tragic incident also prompted several KSCA officials to tender their resignations over ‘moral responsibility’ later that week.
