The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans have every reason to celebrate, as MS Dhoni is not retiring just yet. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that the legendary cricketer will continue playing and will be part of the IPL 2026 season.
Ever since Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, fans have constantly wondered how long he would keep playing in the IPL.
Each season, the rumours about his “last dance” spread, only for the iconic captain to return and prove he’s not done.
Talking to Provoke Lifestyle magazine, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that MS Dhoni will play for the team in the IPL 2026 season and that he has no immediate plans to retire.
The news comes after a difficult IPL 2025 season for the Chennai Super Kings. With Ruturaj Gaikwad injured for most of the campaign, Dhoni stepped up once again to lead the side.
Yet, CSK had a bad year, managing to win just four out of 14 matches, finishing at the bottom of the standings for the very first time in their history.
However, under MS Dhoni, CSK has become one of the most successful IPL franchises, having won five IPL titles so far-2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023-and reaching the playoffs in most seasons.
The thought of seeing him back in action has already sent fans into a frenzy on social media.
MS Dhoni has been dealing with persistent knee issues since his retirement from international cricket in 2020, most notably with his left knee, which underwent arthroscopic surgery following the conclusion of the IPL 2023 season.
Even after the procedure, he never stopped playing in the IPL, and he sometimes used a knee brace, and some day-to-day management to manage the wear and tear required for batting, wicketkeeping and running between the wickets.
While his knee remains a concern, MS Dhoni is also managing a chronic back injury that affected his professional career for years, and now, at 44, his fitness is closely monitored.
