Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar opened up about the shifting of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) matches from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL 2026 season. Shivakumar said that the Chinnaswamy Stadium will host IPL games with better crowd management following the stampede.
Concerns over safety at the venue have increased since a tragic stampede at an RCB victory celebration in June, which left 11 people dead and dozens injured. The venue hasn’t hosted a single match following the incident. Officials had even considered moving IPL games away from the stadium in Bengaluru.
After voting in the KSCA elections, DK Shivakumar said that the government is determined to prevent any repeat of past accidents in Bengaluru. He assured that events at the Chinnaswamy Stadium will be handled more responsibly in the future.

“In the future, whatever mishaps happened in Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru, we will make sure such incidents do not recur,” Shivakumar said.
“Going forward, we will conduct events in this KSCA stadium in a way that upholds the pride of Bengaluru. But we will do it properly, within the legal framework, and with better attention to crowd management while using this stadium,” he added.
Will not allow IPL matches to be shifted out of Chinnaswamy stadium.
This is a question of Bengaluru and Karnataka’s pride. We will ensure IPL matches are held here.

DK Shivakumar dismissed talk of moving IPL games out of Bengaluru. The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government will do whatever is needed to keep hosting matches safely. He also mentioned that plans are underway to build a second, larger cricket stadium in Bengaluru.
“From now on, no IPL will be shifted. We will conduct it right here. This is the pride of Karnataka and Bengaluru, and we will protect it. Whatever needs to be done, we will ensure it is taken care of going forward,” Shivakumar stated.
“Along with this, we will also develop an alternative stadium, a large one,” he continued.
Before the Chinnaswamy Stadium can host games in 2026, officials must first confirm that the 17-acre venue in central Bengaluru is structurally safe and strong enough for use.
The IPL 2026 auction will take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. It will be a one-day mini auction. Ahead of the auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have made several changes to their squad.
The team has released Liam Livingstone, Lungi Ngidi, Tim Seifert, and Blessing Muzarabani as they reshape their overseas lineup. Yash Dayal, who played a key role in RCB’s title win earlier this year, has been retained despite not playing since the final and facing legal issues unrelated to cricket.
RCB have also moved on from domestic players Mayank Agarwal and Swastik Chikara. Agarwal came in as a replacement last season, and Chikara leaves without debuting for the franchise.
