Iyer doesn’t think that the price tag put him under pressure in the below-par season for the franchise.
Venkatesh Iyer was one of the most expensive flops in the Indian Premier League 2025. Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for INR 23.75 crore in the mega auction, but he was a walking wicket in the 18th season and was also dropped from the playing XI. There is a possibility of KKR releasing him ahead of the mini-auction to sign consistent performers.
Meanwhile, Iyer doesn’t think that the price tag put him under pressure in the below-par season for the franchise.
“I know when the amount is big, the task is big, and the responsibility is big. The role is not about taking wickets or scoring runs, but is about creating a bigger impact. Nothing changes for me when it comes to preparations. Be it INR 20 lakh or INR 20 crore, preparations won’t change. You have to put in more effort regardless of the money factor,” he told Sportskeeda.
He gave a befitting reply to critics, who had questioned his price tag. “People who are questioning are not in my contact list. It was the team that decided to spend money on me. I always wanted to play IPL, so these things don’t bother me. I have learnt this over the years. I am only answerable to those who have a direct impact on my life,” he added.
