CSK Star Ashwin Hails THIS RCB Steal as Future of T20s – Cricket.com

After three seasons for the Mumbai Indians (MI), Tim David was released by the franchise ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. He had fared reasonably well for the franchise, hitting 186, 231 and 241 in the three seasons, all of which came at a strike rate over 158.
However, MI released the Australian power-hitter, and it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who made the most of it, securing his services for INR 3 crore, which proved to be a bargain as David smashed 187 runs at 62.33 along with an impressive strike rate of 185.14 to lead RCB to their maiden title.
Former India and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin reveals that he had advised many teams to go for David, but they were not convinced.
“I shouldn’t say this, but I told a couple of decision makers, asked them to pick Tim David. They were like, ‘No, his game has fallen apart. ‘ I’ll repeat, the future of T20s, six feet-plus players, long levers, strong players, are going to rule the roost", Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
“If there is no change in the wide line, they are going to kill it. In the next auctions, Cam Green is going to go for a bomb. People have their eyes on Mitch Owen, but I would say wait a bit and see.
“Owen is still new to the scene. In a tournament like the IPL, to come directly and create an impact is a challenge, but nevertheless, I will wait a bit on it. Cam Green and Tim David have been in great form."
David went into the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bid for the batter till INR 2.80 crore, letting RCB pick David up for INR 3 crore, which Ashwin believes is a steal.
“A player RCB picked up at base price [INR 3 crore] has taken his game to the next level. It’s good to see Australia sending him up the order. A real steal for RCB," Ashwin said.
David has been in good form for Australia recently as well, with his last four scores for them reading 102*, 30, 83 and 50.
