Noor’s final over. Six!! Shashank brings out the slog sweep first ball and clears the midwicket boundary. Leading edge, but he will get a single to long off. Full toss down leg, Shreyas can’t get the timing right. Just a single to short fine leg. Shashank picks up a couple more with a lofted shot towards wide long on. 11 from the over.
Pathirana with his second. Low full toss on the pads, clipped to deep square for a single. Four!! Low full toss outside off, Wadhera finds the gap past mid off for a boundary. WICKET!! Outside off, Wadhera carves it straight to Jadeja at point who takes a good low catch.
Shashank in at 5. Misses his waft on a length ball outside off. Picks up a single to deep square. Shreyas picks up a couple to long on to close out the over.
Nehal Wadhera in at 4. Curran with his third. Clubs the first ball towards midwicket for one. Wadhera gets off the mark with a single to square leg. Six!! Slower ball, in the slot but, lofted over long on for six! Slower short ball, Shreyas slaps it over the bowler’s head for a couple. Four!! Finds the gap through cover for another boundary. Fifty for Shreyas Iyer with a single to midwicket.
Noor back into the attack. Shreyas cuts one to backward point where Jadeja dives to prevent a run. Miscues his pull but gets a single to long on. Prabhsimran comes down the track and looks to loft one, the edge is dropped by Pathirana at short third. Six!! A touch short, Shreyas pulls it over Brevis at deep midwicket for six! Prabhsimran slog sweeps towards midwicket, holes out to Brevis.
Curran back. Shreyas clubs the first ball to long on for one. Slower ball down leg, Prabhsimran has to wait for it and defends back to the bowler. Another slower ball, Prabhsimran drives to long on for a single. Slower short ball, goes straight up after Prabhsimran mistimes, falls well short of the fielders in the deep. Just five from the over.
Pathirana into the attack. Shreyas defends a short of a length ball to short midwicket for one. Six!! Full on the stumps, whipped over midwicket for six! Shot of the day from Prabhsimran. Fifty partnership up between the two. Yorker on the stumps, Prabhsimran jams it to midwicket and has to put in a full-length dive to make his ground back at the strikers’. Slower ball outside off, pulled to square leg for a single. Four!! Wide outside off, guided past backward point for a boundary. Fifty up for Prabhsimran!
Sam Curran into the attack. Starts with a dot ball. Shreyas carves a wide ball towards deep point, falls short of the fielder in the deep. Short ball, Prabhsimran misses his attempted upper cut. Prabhsimran mistimes his lofted shot over midwicket, falls just short of Jadeja haring in. Four!! Another slow bouncer, guided past short third by Shreyas for four. Just seven from the over.
Noor with his second. Beats Shreyas’ drive, but Dhoni fails to gather it properly behind the stumps. Four!! Full on the pads, flicked through fine leg for a boundary. Six!! Steps down the track and lofts Noor down the ground for six. Full on the stumps, swept to square leg for one. 13 from the over.
Jadeja back. Four!! Shreyas sweeps one through square leg, Dube is slow to move across, manages to beat him and find the boundary. Single to long off next ball. Jadeja drops it short with Prabhsimran stepping down, manages to slap it to cover for one. Four!! Prabhsimran manages to get a glove on his attempted reverse sweep, runs past short third for a boundary.
Noor Ahmad into the attack. Full down legside, clipped to midwicket for one. Wide outside off, Shreyas misses his waft. Whips a length ball to deep midwicket for a single. Prabhsimran defnds one to the legside for one. One more guided to the same region, Shreyas manages to come back for a second this time. Short and wide, carved to deep point for one. Six from the over.
Jadeja into the attack, Shreyas picks a single off the first ball. Prabhsimran misses his attempted reverse sweep. Appeal for lbw as Prabhsimran is caught in front of the wicket. Not given onfield and MSD shows the ‘T’. Umpire’s call on impact, and the opener survives. Edges the next ball to short third, but manages to get off strike with a single through backward square leg next ball. Four!! Full down legside, clipped through fine leg for a boundary. Six runs from the over.
Khaleel with his third. Four! Priyansh pulls it through midwicket for a boundary. Four!! A touch wide this time, Priyansh throws his arms at it and the edge flies through third man for four. WICKET!! Short ball aimed at the body, Priyansh looks to pull and gets a feather through to the keeper. 23 off 15 for him.
Appeals for lbw as Shreyas is rapped on the pads first ball, was well down leg. Prabhsimran slaps one through mid off, but Dube’s diving effort prevents a boundary.
Kamboj to Prabhsimran, walks down the track and slaps it over long on for six! Drives the next ball straight to the fielder at cover. Priyansh makes room on the legside, Anshul follows him, only a legbye. Four!! Full on the stumps, Prabhsimran manages to awkwardly paddle it through fine leg for a boundary. 12 off the over.
Khaleel returns. Down the legside but clips Prabhsimran’s thigh on the way. Four!! Whips the next ball through fine leg where Pathirana puts in a football-esque sliding tackle, only to push it towards the boundary cushion. Priyansh picks up a single to midwicket. Seven from the over.
Anshul Kamboj with the second over. Prabhsimran gets off the mark with a single to midwicket. Four!! Short to Priyansh, pulled off the front foot to midwicket for a boundary. Chips the short of a length ball to the legside sweeper for a single. Length ball on the stumps, turned to deep square for a single. Inside edge on Priyansh’s slash, picks up a single to square leg. 9 runs from the over.
Impact Player Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya walk out to open for PBKS in the chase of 191. Khaleel Ahmed with the new white ball in hand.
Back of a length, angled into Arya, defended with the full face of the bat. Back of a length again, defended to point. Four!! A touch wide outside off, clips the outside edge and runs past slip for a boundary. A jaffa! Swings past Priyansh’s outside edge. Four!! A hoick across the line but manages to get it past short midwicket and finds the boundary.
Arshdeep to bowl the last. Dube gets a boundary first ball. But he falls next ball and CSK has been bowled out for 190 in 19.2 overs! From a solid 184/6, CSK has collapsed, losing its last four wickets for just four runs in the space of seven balls. We will be back with the chase shortly
Hat-trick hero! Chahal delivers an over for the ages in the 19th. With PBKS down to four fielders outside the circle due to a slow over-rate, Dhoni greets him with a towering six off the first legal ball. But that’s where the fun ends for CSK. Chahal hits back instantly, dismissing Dhoni the next delivery with a mistimed loft to long-off. Then comes the carnage — Deepak Hooda departs for a scratchy two, Anshul Kamboj is bowled first ball, and Noor Ahmad falls to a clever loopy ball to seal the hat-trick. Three wickets in three balls, and a second IPL hat-trick for Chahal. Stunning comeback.
Jansen to bowl out. Jansen to Sam Curran — six runs! Short and begging to be hit, and Curran obliges with a fierce pull over midwicket. Thumped with authority, that one sailed into the stands. OUT! Wicket against the run of play. Curran goes for 88 off 47.Short and wide outside off, Curran looked to sway away but left his bat hanging and is caught behind — and that’s the end of a superb knock. He falls 12 short of a century. Decibel levels go through the roof at Chepauk as Dhoni walks out to the middle. A top edge off his bat flies for four first ball. 13 runs and a wicket off that over.
Here’s Arshdeep. Change in strategy from Arshdeep as he targets wide yorkers to the two left-handers. He sprays a few too wide and ends up conceding two extras, but the plan holds — no boundaries in the over, and both batters are kept in check. Excellent over. Just four off it.
Curran is teeing off in Chennai and Shedge is taking the hit. He clears his front leg and launches the first ball over long-off for a massive 80-metre six. Next one’s too full on the pads, and Curran whips it over midwicket with ease — two big blows back-to-back. A moment of brilliance in the field from Shreyas Iyer keeps Curran to just two off a free hit that looked destined for six. Curran launched it to long-on’s left, but Iyer timed his leap perfectly, grabbed it mid-air, and flicked it back into play just before landing beyond the rope. Next ball, Curran makes no mistake — a full toss outside off and he drills it through the off-side for four. He hits another four next ball. 26 runs off that over as Curran enters the 80s.
Omarzai struck with the first ball after the break, knocking over Brevis for 32 and ending a 78-run stand. But the spotlight stays on Sam Curran, who brings up his first fifty of the season with a well-run brace. He reaches the milestone in just 30 balls — a vital knock. He celebrates with a boundary next ball. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube joins him at the crease.
Marco Jansen back into the attack. Highlight from that over was Brevis’ no-look scoop! It’s short and wide outside off, angled into him, but Brevis coolly gets his head out of the way and helps it over the keeper for a cheeky boundary. Meanwhile, Curran is batting on 49. TIME OUT!
Shedge gets a second over in a row. Curran keeps going strong — a short ball, and he swings through the line, sending it racing to the boundary for four more. But a good comeback from Shedge as he concedes five singles off the next five.
Omarzai continues. Azmatullah to Sam Curran — four runs! Another top edge, flying over the keeper’s head. Not the first time Curran’s had a slice of luck today, but it counts. That boundary also brings up the 50 partnership — a crucial stand in the context of the game. Curran’s playing a wonderful knock here. Nicely played by Curran again. A full delivery angling down the leg side, with a short fine leg in place. Curran tucks it neatly past him, sending it fine enough to beat deep square leg for four. 14 runs off the over.
Suryansh Shedge into the attack. Starts the over well and ends it on a fine note too. Some semblance of quiet in that over after the power-hitting in the last 10 mins. Five off it.
Omarzai returns after the break — and Brevis greets him in style. First ball, slightly short and wide, and Brevis is quick to pounce. He opens the face and carves it past backward point for four. Pure timing, pure class. Next delivery, he pushes it into the gap and hustles back for a sharp two. There’s a noticeable shift now — a sense of urgency in CSK’s approach. The intent is clear. Nine off the over.
Yuzi Chahal continues, but Curran is starting to shift gears. Chahal tosses one up on middle, and Curran sweeps it hard for four to start the over. Sensing an opportunity, he follows it up with a pull through mid-wicket for another boundary. Much-needed momentum for his side. That first boundary off a fuller delivery forced Chahal to adjust — he dragged his length back slightly, but Curran was ready and punished him. Then came Brevis’ turn. Chahal dropped one short again, and Brevis didn’t miss — a powerful pull over deep mid-wicket for six. A big over for the batting side — 16 runs off it. That’d be TIME OUT!
Brar continues. Brar to Sam Curran — and that’s launched over long-on for six! There was a fielder stationed on the boundary, but Curran backed himself. He charged down the track and swung cleanly. Nine off the over.
More spin. Yuzi Chahal into the attack. Tidy over. Six singles and a brace off it in the end. Just a quick update on Jaddu’s struggles vs spin: In IPL 2025, Jadeja has struggled against spin. He has scored 76 runs off 75 balls, with five dismissals. His strike rate stands at just 101.33, and 34.1% of the deliveries he faced were dot balls.
Jadeja looked to take on Harpreet Brar right from the start — and began the over in style.
He slammed the first ball, tossed up outside off, over mid-off for four. Brar then dragged it short and wide, and Jadeja pounced again, cutting hard for another boundary. The next ball was similar, and Jadeja repeated the treatment — three boundaries in four balls.
But just as he seemed to be taking control, it all came undone.
Brar pushed one through outside off, and there was a faint noise as it passed the bat. The appeal was turned down, but PBKS reviewed. UltraEdge confirmed a spike. Jadeja has to walk back after a flying start — a sharp review ends the cameo. Brevis is the new man in. Dozen off the over and a wicket.
Change in attack. Omarzai replaces Arshdeep. He swings the new ball as well. Omarzai to Jadeja — four runs.
Short on the leg side, and Jadeja finally connects sweetly. He pivots on the back foot and plays a controlled pull, lifting it over short fine leg to get off the mark in style. Eight from the over.
Jansen strikes! Mhatre departs. Both openers back in the hut now. Good-length ball angling away, Mhatre tries to hit it straight but gets it off the toe-end. It loops to the left of mid-off, where Iyer runs across and takes a sharp catch. Ravindra Jadeja at 4. Curran’s first boundary comes off a top edge that flies straight over the keeper’s head for four. Single to end the over. 6 off it.
Arshdeep continues, with Mhatre on strike. He starts poorly, conceding two wides — both swinging in but straying too far down the leg side.
Rasheed then takes charge. He picks the line early and lofts a full delivery cleanly over the bowler’s head for four. He capitalises again — this time pulling a short one over fine leg for a six.
Just as he seemed to be shifting momentum, Arshdeep strikes back. He goes wobble-seam, and Rasheed mistimes his shot, offering a simple catch. Out for 11 — two big hits, then gone.
Arshdeep’s over had gone wayward, but he finishes it with a crucial breakthrough. Sam Curran in at 3. Over goes for 14 but there’s a wicket in it.
Marco Jansen shares the new ball. Mhatre on strike. He gets a four off the second ball; outside off and he dabs it late to send that between the keeper and short third for the first boundary of the night. Good over in the end. Just five off it in the end, including a single.
Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre opening the batting. Rasheed is on strike. Arshdeep Singh is opening the attack. He gets the new ball to swing a bit straightaway. Slow start for the Super Kings. They get three off the first, which includes a wide.
Right, one would assume Shreyas has won an important toss. Dew has been a big factor here lately, making chasing more preferable. CSK’s batting issues notwithstanding, Dhoni would hope for a competitive total.

Dhoni:
“I don’t know if I’ll be coming for the next game (laughs). One of the things is the pride factor. You play the majority of your games at home, and home advantage is very important — which we haven’t been able to capitalise on.”
Iyer:
“We’re going to bowl first. We’ll focus on our process. Our preparations have been solid. The boys are in high spirits and looking forward to a great game. It’s unfortunate that Maxwell has a fractured finger. We haven’t decided on a replacement yet.”
Shreyas Iyer has won the toss and Punjab Kings will bowl first.
We are not far away from the toss in Chennai. PBKS had coasted home last time these two sides met this season. Shreyas Iyer will be itching for an encore. It’ll be interesting to see how Dhoni’s men respond.
CSK has lost four straight matches at Chepauk this year — the first time since the 2008-10 stretch it has endured such a run at home.
PBKS is pushing for a place back in the top four, while CSK is fighting to stay alive in the competition.
Punjab Kings opener Priyansh Arya scored a century against Chennai Super Kings during their last meeting in New Chandigarh. The left-hander got to the mark in just 39 deliveries. Read more about the knock – HERE
It’s a black soil pitch at the centre of the square, with boundary lengths of approximately 75 and 72 metres on either side.
