We’re getting to that stage of the IPL where every match is a must-win for each side owing to different reasons, and on Friday, Ahmedabad will witness Gujarat Titans battle it out against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Both teams are in different sections of the points table but GT will need a win to stay within touch of a top two spot, while SRH will need to win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. In the context of the tournament, it’s a massive clash for both sides.

Safe picks: Sai Sudharsan (GT), Shubman Gill (GT), Jos Buttler (GT), Heinrich Klaasen (SRH)
Risky picks: Prasidh Krishna (GT), Rashid Khan (GT), Abhishek Sharma (SRH), Travis Head (SRH)
This is a pretty one-sided rivalry. Out of the five H2H meetings, GT have won four and lost just one. GT have won each of the last four H2H meetings and have won all H2H meetings in Ahmedabad.
GT might have been blown away by RR and Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but they’re still a very solid, very consistent unit that’s unlikely to fall off the rails. On the other hand, there have only been two matches all season where SRH have fired. Going by form and H2H trends, expect GT to win this clash.
Shubman Gill has been on a tear of late. He’s crossed 80 in consecutive knocks and his last six scores read 84, 90, 7, 60, 2, 61*. Expect Gill to ride on this good form and accumulate more runs tomorrow.
Every GT bowler went the distance against RR, but it’s still worth keeping an eye on Prasidh, who has taken 17 wickets in the season at an average of just 16.05. He bowls that uncomfortable back-of-a-length that could seriously trouble SRH’s big hitters.
In four matches in Ahmedabad so far, the team batting first has won thrice. Which is interesting as Ahmedabad is usually seen as a ‘chase-at-all-costs’ venue. The average batting first score has been a whopping 215. In 8 innings at this venue, the 190-run mark has been breached 6 times. Expect another run-fest tomorrow.
The good news is that there is no chance of rain on Friday in Ahmedabad. But it’s going to be an extremely hot evening, with the temperature well over 35 degree celsius.
