IPL 2025: Harry Brook banned from participating in IPL for two years after he pulls out from his Delhi Capitals contract – Report – Circle of Cricket

England batter Harry Brook has been banned from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next two years, The Indian Express reported on Thursday (March 13).
Earlier this week, Brook withdrew from his contract with the Delhi Capitals (DC), who signed him in the last year's auction for INR 6.25 Crore.
His decision to pull out left him at risk of a two-year ban from the IPL. This new rule was put in place ahead of the 2025 mega-auction, based on reactions of all 10 franchises who were frustrated with last-minute withdrawals of several players, mostly English, since last few years.
“An official communication has been sent to ECB and Brook about BCCI banning him for two years as per its policy which was informed to each player before they registered their name for IPL auction last year. It’s a policy set by the board and each player has to oblige to it,” a BCCI official confirmed to the newspaper.
In a note to franchises last September, the IPL said, "Any [overseas] player who registers for [an] auction and, after getting picked at the auction, makes himself unavailable before the start of the season will get banned from participating in the IPL/IPL auction for two seasons."
The only exception, the governing council of the league said, will be for "an injury/medical condition, which will have to be confirmed by the [player's] home board".
In 2023, Harry Brook represented Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL, amassing 190 runs at an average of 22.11 in 11 games, including a notable century against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Brook had opted out of the IPL last year as he wanted to be with his family following the death of his grandmother.
On Sunday (March 9), Brook expressed his "unreserved" regret to the Delhi-based franchise and its supporters, stressing that representing England remains his "priority and focus."
"I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologize unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters. It is a really important time for England cricket and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series,” Brook wrote on social media.
"In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date. I know not everyone will understand, and I don't expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right and playing for my country remains my priority and focus," he added.

Delhi Capitals are yet to announce a replacement for Harry Brook. While the IPL 2025 season is slated to get underway on March 22 with the KKR versus RCB clash at the Eden Gardens, DC will open their campaign on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants in Visakhapatnam.
