Yes, but the rules have become far stricter for overseas players. After repeated instances of players registering, getting picked, and then withdrawing weeks before the season, the IPL introduced a new regulation ahead of the 2025 auction.
Any overseas player who pulls out after being bought at the auction and before the season starts will face a two year ban from the IPL and future auctions, unless the withdrawal is supported by a medically verified injury or condition confirmed by the player’s home board. Overseas players who skip the mega auction are also barred from entering the following mini auction.
The change followed franchise feedback on late pullouts, highlighted by cases such as Harry Brook’s back to back withdrawals from Delhi Capitals for personal reasons.
