End of match: Delhi Capitals won by 8 wickets
A clinical performance from both the bowling and batting units of Delhi as they thump Lucknow at their home by 8 wickets. Even after a good start, the LSG batters couldn’t capitalize as the DC bowlers pulled back the runs brilliantly.
Their 159 was never enough on a batting-friendly Ekana pitch, as mentioned by Rishabh Pant in the post-match presentation.
Even after losing Karun Nair quickly, Abhishek Porel and KL Rahul played beautifully to notch up respective fifties, with Axar Patel providing the finishing touch as he hit a few big shots. DC never really looked out of the game as they took on each and every LSG bowler.
Delhi Capitals continue to impress in IPL 2025 and now sit comfortably at the second position in the table with 12 points, just behind Gujarat Titans (GT) due to a lower run rate. For LSG, this marks their fourth loss in nine games.
End of 15 overs: DC – 127/2
DC are cruising towards victory with ease. KL Rahul has played his natural game throughout the tournament so far, as he is nearing his third half-century of the season. Skipper Axar Patel has taken the onus on himself to play the big shots as he took on Ravi Bishnoi for two sixes in an over.
LSG are finding it difficult to dismantle the DC batters. Their line and length with the ball hasn’t been great either.
10:19 pm: WICKET! Abhishek Porel tries to hit it over deep mid-wicket but gets caught out by David Miller. A good innings of 51(36) from the youngster. Another wicket for Markram. Skipper Axar Patel comes into the middle. DC 105/2 after 11.5 overs.
End of 10 overs: DC – 80/1
The current run rate is almost the same as the required run rate, as Abhishek Porel is once again showing his class with a neat 43 off 31 deliveries. Rahul is playing the anchor innings alongside Porel as they look to keep the partnership going.
LSG bowlers need a wicket here; otherwise, things are going to get tougher for them.
End of powerplay: DC – 54/1
After the first 6 overs, DC finds itself in a comfortable position with 54 runs on the board. Despite the wicket of Karun Nair, Abhishek Porel (25*) has handled LSG bowlers quite well so far, with KL Rahul (11*) on the other end.
LSG will look to take quick wickets to slow down the run rate, as not many runs are there to chase.
9:37 pm: WICKET! Karun Nair falls to Aiden Markram as he gets clean bowled by the South African. An unlucky dismissal as the ball ricochets off his hips and onto the stumps. DC 36/1 after 3.4 overs.
9:25 pm: The second innings is underway. Abhishek Porel takes strike. Shardul Thakur will start the proceedings for LSG.
End of innings: LSG – 159/6
LSG managed to reach 159 by the end of their innings — which is their lowest total this season. They looked set for a much bigger score — around 180-190 — when Markram and Marsh were batting well.
But after Markram got out, things started going downhill. Pooran hit a couple of boundaries but was dismissed by Starc soon after.
The pitch also began to slow down. Mukesh struck twice in one over – dismissing both Samad and Marsh. Badoni — who came in as the Impact sub possibly because Pant had a minor wrist injury — played a crucial cameo.
Miller couldn’t get going. Without Badoni’s late hitting, LSG might have ended up with a much lower total. DC will back themselves to chase this but if LSG get a few early wickets — the match could get interesting.
End of 12 overs: LSG – 99/2
Markram and Marsh kept the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and good running, taking LSG to 75/0 after 8 overs. Markram smashed a huge six off Vipraj in the 8th over.
DC fought back with Chameera taking the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Markram for 52 in the 10th over. Starc then dismissed Pooran with a clever slower ball — bowling him for 9.
End of powerplay: LSG – 51/0
A good start for LSG as they end the powerplay at 51 runs without loss of any wicket. Openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh are looking composed.
Axar Patel bowled three overs up front and kept runs under control with his variations. Mitchell Starc surprisingly bowled just one over in the first six.
Though there were a couple of plays and misses — especially one close call for Markram against Chameera — the LSG openers largely stayed in control and didn’t give Delhi any breakthroughs. This is only the second time in IPL 2025 that a spinner has bowled three overs inside the powerplay.
